Description

Shortly after the discovery of alpha particle emission by Rutherford, scientist began to explore the possibility of using these alpha emitting radionuclides in experiments for treating disease. However it was approximately 100 years before clinical trials using such radionuclides began in spite of numerous animal studies demonstrating efficacy over the ensuing years. This talk will explore this history and discuss the remaining challenges to overcome in order to make targeted alpha therapy a routine approach to treating disease.
