Description

The Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) is an international research centre at the leading edge of neutron science and technology. As the world’s flagship centre for neutron science, the ILL provides scientists with a very high flux of neutrons feeding some 40 state-of-the-art instruments, which are constantly being developed and upgraded. The ultracold (UCN) and very cold neutron (VCN) installation PF2 (“Physique Fondamentale 2”) is described and reactor stress test related and requested upgrades are presented. A brief retrospection on neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) research using UCNs is given and the status quo for PF2 is described.
