Entering Canada
Visitors to Canada require a valid passport. US citizens carrying a valid US Passport do not require a visa to come to Canada. Residents of the US who carry a passport from a country listed on the Government of Canada site may need an Invitation Letter from the Conference Chair to attach to the Visitor's Visa Application. Please refer to the Government of Canada website for instructions on how and who needs to apply for a Visitor's Visa to enter Canada. Please give yourself sufficient time for processing. Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
As of March 15th, 2016, any delegates from visa-exempt countries will need to apply for an eTA (electronic Travel Authorization) before then can board a flight to Canada. The eTA costs C$7.00 and allows for pre-screening of visa exempt nationals. Please check here for details related to the eTA.
Letters of Invitation
If you require a Visitor Visa to enter Canada, please begin the process as soon as possible. Register for ASW, indicate during registration process that you need an invitation letter, and email the ASW Chair to follow up.
Attendees from countries that require a visa may request a visa letter by emailing the ASW Chair with the subject line: Family Name, Visa Letter (e.g., Smith, Visa Letter).

TRIUMF is approximately 13 km away from Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
🚖 UBER / Taxi / Rental Car (~25 minutes)
The fastest way to travel from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to TRIUMF or TRIUMF House is by Uber or taxi (approximately 25 minutes).
A rental car is not necessary for getting around Vancouver unless you plan to explore outside the city.
If driving to TRIUMF:
- The parking lot is located north of the Main Office Building.
- Paid parking is in effect 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
- Hourly or daily parking passes can be purchased from the on-site ticket dispenser.
🚆 Public Transit (~45 minutes)
TRIUMF and TRIUMF House are easily accessible via Vancouver public transit (approximately 45 minutes):
- Take the Canada Line (SkyTrain) from YVR toward Waterfront.
- Exit at Langara–49th Avenue Station.
- From Langara–49th Station @ Bay 2, take Bus 049 toward UBC.
- For TRIUMF, exit at Triumf Centre.
- For TRIUMF House, exit at NB Wesbrook Mall @ Thunderbird Blvd.
