TRIUMF Explorium is a hands-on STEM outreach program designed to bring science, engineering, and technology directly to youth across British Columbia. By offering immersive, interactive experiences - including VR/AR tools, LEGO models, and 3D printed models of the facility and science kits - the Explorium aims to break down barriers to STEM education faced by underserved and underrepresented communities. The initiative supports youth from diverse backgrounds, including BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, and rural populations, while also engaging educators, families, and community leaders.
Launching at EMIX XX 2025 in Whistler, TRIUMF Explorium will be open to the public during the conference before expanding to schools and communities throughout BC. This program's mobile format ensures accessibility regardles of location or resources, and its ultimate goal is a permanent installation at TRIUMF. Explorium represents TRIUMF's broader commitment to inclusive, impactful and barrier-free outreach and education - empowering the next generation of scientists and engineers across Canada.
TRIUMF Explorium will also spotlight TRIUMF's flagship facility, ARIEL (Advanced Rare Isotope Laboratory), through interactive displays and virtual reality experiences. For those unable to join the TRIUMF site tour, the exhibit will offer a unique opportunity to take a VR walk through ARIEL's target hall and other key areas - bringing Canada's cutting edge rare isotope science directly to the conference venue.
