The EMIS XX Welcome Reception will be held at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler on Monday evening, October 20, at 6:30 PM. The meeting point will be outside the Fairmont.
The Squamish Nation and the Lil'wat Nation created the Cultural Centre through an unprecedented partnership, with the goal of sharing their living cultures with the world.
This spectacular venue is located on the shared traditional territories of the Squamish and Lil'wat First Nations, in Whistler's Upper Village, just a 3-minute walk from the Fairmont.
What to expect
The Welcome Reception will begin with a traditional procession at 6:30 PM, thoughtfully organized by the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre (SLCC). This ceremonial walk will lead all conference participants from the Fairmont to the reception venue.
Following the procession, all participants and registered guests are invited to enjoy:
- Two complimentary beverages
- A selection of light refreshments, including canapés and traditional bannock
The evening will provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to mingle, reconnect with colleagues, and engage in stimulating scientific exchange.
Guests will also have the opportunity to:
- Visit the SLCC galleries
- Interact with Cultural Ambassadors to learn more about Squamish and Lil’wat culture and traditions
